Our Feline Story

Celtic Rose Cats is the culmination of three generations of ladies with a passion for breeding healthy, beautiful, and exotic companions. For over 20 years, I’ve managed a successful show-dog program—producing top-winning Salukis under AKC’s Preservation Breeder of Merit standards—and working various roles in the veterinary industry. When my daughter’s fascination with cats blossomed through fostering kittens & 4H, we welcomed our first Bengal queen into our home. In the past all our cats had been companions only or rescues. Rowyn's devotion and love for her Bengal inspired us to expand our program and share these magnificent felines with fellow enthusiasts. I had owned and loved Bengals for many years prior to having children so getting one now for both my daughter and I was truly special.

Why did we choose the Bengal Cat Breed?

Bengal cats embody the perfect harmony of domestic affection and wild elegance. Their striking colors and intricate patterns make them living works of art—why hang a painting when a stunning feline can grace your life? Beyond their beauty, Bengals excel as family companions and adapt effortlessly to other pets—especially dogs. At Celtic Rose Cats, each kitten is lovingly raised alongside our Salukis and resident cats, ensuring they enter your home confident, social, and ready to become a cherished member of your family.

  • TICA Paperwork for kitten registration included at no additional charge.  All Litters are registered with TICA. We never sell unregistered kittens. **Please be aware - If a breeder says they will save you money by not providing papers or say it is more expensive to get them registered... This can be a red flag of other problems with their program and almost always means they don't genetic or cardio test their adults, and/or cannot get papers due to overbreeding or unpure genetics for their cats. Ask questions and don't hesitate to request proof of any health testing and photos/videos of kittens as they are growing. These help to ensure your kitten is coming from a healthy environment with their welfare in mind and not just their value. **

  • Celtic Rose kittens are weaned on Royal Canin - Mother and Baby Cat kibble and wet food to help ease their transition into your home. They will be exposed to high quality raw and freeze-dried foods once old enough in our home. We feed Royal Canin Bengal dry food to our adults for a balanced primary diet as well as a mixture of home or purchased raw foods. We raise and process our own chickens and eggs so all our companions benefit and get fresh chicken regularly.

  • Celtic Rose kittens go home at 12 weeks of age or later with their first 2 shots given by a Licensed Veterinarian in addition to proper worming and parasite treatments/prevention. This is required in keeping with the TICA breeder code of Ethics.

  • All our kittens are raised in our home and socialized with people, children, other adult cats, our Salukis - "Ember" & "Clover", as well as our fluffy Miniature American Shepherd - "Ekko".  All kittens are handled from birth and the Queens are all household pets that sleep with us at night. The Bengal Cat Breed - History and Characteristics

Bengal Cat History

Bengals trace their roots to the deliberate crossing of wild Asian leopard cats with domestic felines—an innovative breeding effort that blends the leopard’s dramatic markings with a friendly, playful temperament. Through careful selection and dedication, breeders throughout the 1970s and 1980s refined the breed’s signature traits—striking rosettes and marbling, a sleek, athletic physique, and an inquisitive, confident nature. Today’s Bengal carries forward that pioneering legacy: a cat that looks as if it belongs in the wild but thrives as a loving, engaging companion in the home.

Bengal Cat Characteristics

Bengal Cat Size
Bengals are built for athleticism. Adult males typically weigh 10–15 lbs, while females range from 8–12 lbs, all carried on sleek, muscular frames with long legs. Despite their medium-to-large stature, these cats remain exceptionally agile—climbing, leaping, and exploring with effortless grace.

Bengal Cat Personality
Curious, intelligent, and endlessly playful, Bengals thrive on interaction and enrichment. They’re notorious water-lovers and expert climbers, always ready for a new adventure. Yet they also enjoy quiet cuddle sessions, forming strong bonds with their families. If you want a bold, lively companion whose affectionate side shines through, the Bengal is the perfect match.

  • Bengal Kitten Traits - Bengal kittens arrive bursting with curiosity, intelligence, and boundless energy. From their earliest weeks, they’ll scamper up cat trees, investigate every nook, and eagerly engage with their human family. Early, consistent socialization is key—helping these playful explorers mature into confident, loving adults.

Bengal Cat Health
Generally robust, Bengals can be prone to a few breed-specific concerns, including:

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM): A form of heart muscle thickening

  • Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA): A degenerative eye disorder

  • Gastrointestinal sensitivities: Occasional digestive upsets

Regular veterinary exams, a high-quality diet, and responsible breeding practices help minimize these risks and keep your Bengal thriving.

Bengal Cat Care
Caring for a Bengal means catering to both body and mind. Provide:

  • Daily play & climbing outlets: Cat trees, perches, and puzzle toys

  • High-protein nutrition: Diets rich in animal-based proteins support their active metabolism

  • Mental stimulation: Interactive feeders, puzzle toys, and training sessions

  • Routine wellness checks: Annual or biannual vet visits to monitor heart, eyes, and overall health

With proper enrichment, nutrition, and veterinary care, your Bengal will stay healthy, happy, and endlessly entertaining.

The Bengal Cat - Appearance

Striking Coats and Athletic Abilities
Bengal cats are truly showstoppers in the feline world—their wild, jungle-inspired looks and lithe, muscular bodies set them apart from every other domestic breed. With a broad, modified-wedge head framed by rounded contours, medium-small ears placed toward the sides, and large, expressive oval eyes, Bengals exude both power and grace. Their long, sturdy necks flow seamlessly into athletic torsos supported by medium-length legs (hind legs slightly longer) and large, rounded paws. A thick, tapering tail—always capped in bold black (unless a different dilute color) —balances their lithe frame, and, when they stretch out on their backs, you’ll spot the hallmark “spotted belly” that hints at their wild ancestry.

Coat Colors, Patterns & “Glitter”
Every Bengal’s coat is a marvel of genetics and beauty. Their short, dense pelt feels velvety soft, and the signature “glitter” effect—tiny shafts of fur tipped with pale pigment—makes them literally sparkle in the light. Available colors range from the classic brown tabby and sleek black-silver tabby to more delicate seal mink and seal silver lynx point.

Patterns appear in two principal styles:

  • Spot: Randomly scattered or arranged in horizontal rosettes against a lighter ground.

  • Marble: Swirling, horizontal stripes that twist and flow like river currents.

Whether you’re drawn to the warm, earthy tones of a brown tabby or the cool sheen of a silver-coated mink, every Bengal’s coat is a unique fingerprint of color, contrast, and genetic artistry.

Grooming & Care
Despite their exotic look, Bengals are surprisingly low-maintenance. A weekly brush keeps their sleek coat free of loose hairs and enhances that signature sheen. Because they’re active athletes—always climbing, leaping, and exploring—providing sturdy scratching posts and interactive toys will keep them happy and healthy. With a balanced diet and routine veterinary checkups, your Bengal will maintain a glossy coat and vibrant energy for years to come.

Primary Bengal Color Categories
Bengal cats come in three fundamental color groups—Brown, Snow, and Silver—each offering its own palette of tones, patterns, and eye colors.

1. Brown Bengals

The quintessential Bengal, Brown Bengals display warm hues ranging from golden ochre and pumpkin to deep mahogany. Their distinct spotting, rosetting, or marbling pops against this backdrop, with high-contrast coats prized by breeders.

  • Shade Variations: Some lean toward cooler, gray-tinged browns, while others glow with vivid, almost fiery saturation.

  • Eye Colors: Rich greens or golds enhance their warm, earthy coats.

2. Snow Bengals

Snow Bengals evoke the look of a snow leopard, with lighter backgrounds and softer contrasts. This category breaks down into three snow-series variations:

  • Lynx Point

    • Coat: Pale cream to ivory with faint, point-style markings

    • Eyes: Bright blue

  • Sepia

    • Coat: Warmer beige or light tan ground with brown markings

    • Eyes: Green or gold

  • Mink

    • Coat: A midpoint between lynx and sepia—creamy background with moderate contrast

    • Eyes: Aqua to teal

3. Silver Bengals

Silver Bengals captivate with cool-toned pelts—from near-white to slate gray—overlaid by dark charcoal or black markings. Their crisp, high-contrast coats are valued for minimal “tarnish” (warm undertones).

  • Eye Colors: Typically vivid green, reinforcing the breed’s cool, striking aesthetic.

Whether you prefer the warm glow of a Brown Bengal, the icy elegance of a Silver, or the delicate shading of a Snow Bengal, each color group brings its own appeal—and genetics—to this uniquely patterned breed.

Patterns of Bengal Cats
Bengals owe much of their exotic appeal to the variety and precision of their coat patterns. Three primary designs define the breed:

  1. Spotted

    • Resembling wild leopards, spots are distributed across the body in varying sizes and shapes.

    • Some cats even display intricate “paw-print” patterns.

  2. Marbled

    • Fluid, horizontal swirls mimic veins of marble or flowing water.

    • Each swirl is unique, lending a dynamic, art-like quality to the coat.

  3. Rosetted

    • Characteristic jaguar-style markings: spots circled by a lighter halo.

    • Common rosette types:

      • Arrowhead: Sharp, triangular shapes pointing inward.

      • Donut: Nearly perfect rings with bold outlines.

      • Clouded: Large, irregular shapes reminiscent of clouded leopard markings.

Rare & Emerging Color Variations
Beyond classic Brown, Snow, and Silver, breeders occasionally produce less common hues:

  • Charcoal
A deep, smoky overlay—often accompanied by a pronounced dorsal stripe—across any base color.

  • Blue
A dilute, powder-gray coat with soft cream undertones; markings appear subtler yet captivating.

  • Melanistic
Known as “black panthers,” these Bengals possess solid-black fur in which patterns emerge only under bright light.

Genetic Foundations of Coat Traits
Bengal coloration and patterning arise from the interplay of key genes:

  • B (Brown): Dominant allele for classic brown background.

  • cs / cb (Snow series): Recessive alleles produce Lynx Point, Mink, or Sepia variations.

  • I (Silver inhibitor): Dominant allele suppressing warm pigments to yield silver tones.

Breeders rely on genetic testing to combine these alleles intentionally and maintain consistency in coat quality.

Evaluating Coat Quality
When assessing a Bengal’s coat, look for:

  • Contrast: Sharp distinction between background and markings.

  • Clarity: Well-defined, crisp edges on spots, rosettes, or marbling.

  • Glitter: A subtle shimmer caused by light-tipped guard hairs.

While coat color and pattern are enchanting, balance them with:

  • Temperament & Health: Prioritize kitten socialization, veterinary screenings, and breeder health guarantees.

  • Personal Preference: Select the color family and pattern that resonate most..

Caring for the Bengal Coat
Maintain that legendary sheen with simple routines:

  • Grooming: A weekly brush removes loose hairs and enhances natural luster.

  • Nutrition: A high-protein diet rich in omega fatty acids supports healthy skin and fur.

  • Hydration: Ample fresh water prevents dryness and keeps the coat supple.
